Biggs: Giants hire line coach

New Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell has stayed away from the Senior Bowl this week as he focuses on his new task, which included helping fill out the coaching staff.

The team took a step in that direction today as it was announced that Robert Nunn has been hired to coach the defensive line. He replaces the departed Mike Waufle.

The line had been the strength of the unit, and arguably the team, as it made its Super Bowl run two years ago. But the play up front slipped badly last season and the rest of the defense lagged too. Nunn, who coached the line in Tampa Bay last season, will be charged with getting more out of an area the club has invested heavily in with some big signings.

"I think the results will come back for us," coach Tom Coughlin said in a release. "He will coach a very important position on our team, one that we will rely on heavily to bring us back to the level of championship play."
