Biggs: Gibson steps up for Rams
St. Louis coach Steve Spagnuolo is running out of options after the Rams lost their third wide receiver for the season on Sunday.
Keenan Burton, the team’s leading receiver, will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery to repair the patella tendon in his right knee. He joins Laurent Robinson and Brooks Foster on injured reserve, further thinning out an inexperienced group for the first-year coach.
The good news is that Brandon Gibson, the rookie acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles in the Will Witherspoon trade, made the most of his opportunity. Gibson made seven receptions for 93 yards after Burton was knocked out of the game. He’s quickly coming on to turn it into a good trade for the franchise.
“I'm not ready to say (Gibson will start Sunday vs. Arizona), but there certainly can be an argument for that,” Spagnuolo said. “We'll see.”
The other healthy receivers on the roster are Donnie Avery, Danny Amendola and Ruvell Martin. Yes, it’s been a long time since the Greatest Show on Turf.
