Biggs: Gore closing in on 1,000 yards

Frank Gore is moving in on something special with the San Francisco 49ers.

The running back needs 58 yards on Sunday against the Detroit Lions to reach 1,000 for the season and make him the first back in franchise history to have four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. It would also make him the first 49ers back to have four 1,000-yard seasons, period.

Gore has been hampered any ankle and toe injuries this season and has missed three games. He had 207 yards in Week 2 vs. Seattle and has ran for 274 yards in the last two weeks in games vs. Philadelphia and Arizona, so he’s hitting stride.

"It's been tough," he said. "I missed three games, but I kept fighting. If I look back on the season, I think I'll be happy."
