Biggs: Gray will interview for coordinator job today

Jerry Gray will interview for the defensive coordinator job in Washington this afternoon.

As planned, new coach Mike Shanahan is going through the process of meeting with remaining members of the Jim Zorn staff as he considers some of them for jobs. Gray coached the secondary and was popular with the players and staff. He’s worked previously as a coordinator in Buffalo and could land the job.

There is competition for the job. Jason La Canfora of NFL.com reports that Jim Haslett was in on Monday to interview for the job. He could be a man in demand in the NFC East. The New York Daily News reported that the Giants contacted Haslett on Monday night about their defensive coordinator opening. The Giants have already met with Perry Fewell, and Romeo Crennel remains on their radar. Mike Zimmer has been mentioned as a possibility for the Redskins, but the Cincinnati Bengals are working to re-sign him.

It’s unknown if Shanahan might also consider Gray to stay on board in Washington as the secondary coach.
