Biggs: Haynesworth not interested in being a leader

Three days after trying to lead other players in a pact to show up late for practice, Albert Haynesworth said after the latest embarrassing loss by the Washington Redskins that he has no interest in being a leader.

Haynesworth was sent home from practice on Friday, Christmas Day, when he arrived at Redskins Park more than an hour late, sources with knowledge of the situation told the National Football Post. But that wasn’t set off the controversy that came to a head with what reports stated was an animated on-field discussion between the player and coach Jim Zorn. The sources said that Haynesworth, upset with the early time of Friday’s events, encouraged teammates to show up late like he planned to do.

After the Redskins were throttled 17-0 Sunday night at FedEx Field by the Dallas Cowboys, Haynesworth said he has patched things up with defensive coordinator Greg Blache, who he ripped last week, and that he doesn’t project himself as a leader.

"A contract don't make you, as far as leadership. I've never beeen a guy that wants to talk or get in front of the team and say whatever,’’ Haynesworth said, according to the Washington Post. “That's not me. I just like to play the game and do that. I'm not the kind of guy who wants to hype up people and all that stuff. I'm not sure. I don't even want to be a captain and go out there in the middle for the coin toss because the other team is the enemy."

The defensive tackle, who signed a $100 million contract at the outset of free agency with $41 million guaranteed, said it was the frustration of a losing season that prompted him to go off.

"I talked to Blache, and we're all great," he told reporters. "Everything's fine. We're grown men. You can disagree, and that's fine. We don't hate each other. There's no hate. No love lost or anything between us. We're still the same.

"Like I said Monday night, it's frustration. I'm sick of losing. I'm not a loser. This team's not losers. We're a good team. We got a lot of talent. We just need to put it together."
