Biggs: Kevin Smith might pass on shoulder surgery
Kevin Smith is having second thoughts about getting shoulder surgery this offseason.
More than a month since the Detroit Lions ended their season on Jan. 3, he might want to make up his mind soon. They call it offseason surgery for a reason, and typically players try to get the work done as soon as possible so they’re back healthy.
Smith is recovering from a torn ACL in his left knee, a surgery he’s already had, and according to Tom Kowalski of MLive.com, he might scrap the shoulder surgery completely. Smith has been getting second medical opinions and he was bothered by injuries to both shoulders last season.
Whatever he decides on the shoulder, it’s going to be some time until he is available. Kowalski writes that Smith is expected to open training camp on the physically unable to perform list because of the knee rehabilitation. If getting a shoulder repaired too would help, why not get it done?
