Biggs: Kroenke silent so far on Rams' sale
One party has yet to say anything about the proposed sale of the St. Louis Rams and that is the man with a 40 percent piece of the pie, Stan Kroenke.
Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that the process of the Rosenbloom family selling its share of the franchise to Urbana, Ill., businessman Shahid Khan got underway officially on Thursday night. The NFL, Rosenbloom family and Khan all released carefully worded statements. Kroenke remained silent.
Kroenke is an important cog in the process. Thomas reports that he has 60 days to declare if he wishes to retain his 40 percent ownership stake, sell his stake or exercise his option to match an offer to purchase the remaining portion of the team. That could be an issue for Kroenke, who also owns the NBA’s Denver Nuggets and NHL’s Colorado Avalanche based on the owersnhip rules of the NFL.
According to Thomas, it’s not expected that Kroenke will be an obstacle in the sale but until he comes out and says something, who knows what his plans are. If it is a smooth process, Khan could be the new majority owner after the league meetings in late May.
