Biggs: Lions promote LB Follett from practice squad
The Detroit Lions have swapped out linebackers, placing Darnell Bing on waivers today and promoting Zack Follett from the practice squad.
Bing, a fourth-round draft pick by the Oakland Raiders in 2006, joined the Lions last season. Follett was a seventh-round pick by the Lions this year.
The move could have been made with an eye toward improving special teams. Detroit struggled in that area in Sunday’s 48-24 loss to the Bears, and coach Jim Schwartz hinted that change was ahead.
Detroit also was busy checking out some players on Tuesday, a league source said. Veteran safety Todd Johnson, who played previously for the Bears and Rams, and linebacker Vinny Ciurciu, who was with the Patriots this offseason and spent the previous two years with the Vikings, were in for visits.
