Biggs: Mr. Smith goes to Washington (state)
More than three decades later, Sherman Smith has discovered you can come home again.
Reports are that he will join the Seattle Seahawks’ coaching staff under Pete Carroll as the running backs coach. He was the offensive coordinator for the Washington Redskins the last two seasons.
Smith is an original Seahawk, a member of the team in its inaugural season in 1976. As Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times points out, Smith led the franchise in rushing in its first four seasons. He is sixth on the club’s all-time rushing list.
Smith is the second member of Jim Zorn’s staff in Washington to land in Seattle. Jerry Gray took a job there as the secondary coach.
