Biggs: Niners hoping to get Staley back on Monday
Playoff hopes for the San Francisco 49ers are all bust dashed and that’s because they have not found a way to win away from Candlestick Park since the season opener at Arizona.
The Niners have lost five straight on the road, but now they get a chance to finish a sweep of the Cardinals, who they host Monday night. San Francisco (5-7) trails in the NFC West by three games with four to play.
They are hopeful to get a boost when they take the field as the Niners’ best offensive lineman, left tackle Joe Staley, may be able to return for the first time since spraining two ligaments in his right knee on Nov. 1 in a loss at Indianapolis.
"Football is different than working out," Staley told the San Francisco Chronicle. "When you're working out, you have the brace and everything is stable. I want to be smart about it. I'm not going to go out there and expect to be full-go. I definitely want to play. It's sucked being out this long."
Barry Sims has replaced Staley while he’s been out and the veteran who is better known as a right tackle has performed well.
