Biggs: Rams have inside track for No. 1 pick
The St. Louis Rams control their own destiny when it comes to the No. 1 pick in the draft.
We’ve done our best to track the top of the draft over the last month-and-a-half, and with one week to go it’s come into focus. The Rams (1-14) will guarantee they own the top pick for the first time since they made good use of it by selecting left tackle Orlando Pace No. 1 overall in 1997.
The Rams, who have not scored more than 13 points in their last four games and were steamrolled Sunday at Arizona, host San Francisco on Sunday. The 49ers (7-8) are playing for a .500 finish under first-year head coach Mike Singletary.
The only thing that could complicate matters for the Rams would be an upset victory and a loss by the Detroit Lions (2-13) at Ford Field against the Chicago Bears (5-9). Then, tiebreakers would need to be applied.
Here is how the teams currently in the mix for the top six picks in the draft stack up and their remaining opponent:
St. Louis (1-14): San Francisco
Detroit (2-13): Chicago
Kansas City (3-12): at Denver
Tampa Bay (3-12): Atlanta
Cleveland (4-11): Jacksonville
Washington (4-11): at San Diego
