Biggs: Rams hire Cromwell as WR coach

The St. Louis Rams will turn to one of the franchise’s more respected players from its days in Los Angeles to coach wide receivers as it was announced Nolan Cromwell has been hired for the job.

Cromwell, a four-time Pro Bowl safety for the Rams in a career that spanned from the 1970s into the 80s, was brought on board by Steve Spagnuolo today. Cromwell will be in charge of a group that is thin on experience and talent. Brandon Gibson, a rookie acquired in a trade with Philadelphia during last season, showed potential and St. Louis is still high on former second-round draft pick Donnie Avery, but it’s a group that needs plenty of development.

Cromwell served as the offensive coordinator at Texas A&M the last trwo seasons. Cromwell previously coached wide receivers for the Seattle Seahawks and had coaching stints with the Green Bay Packers and Rams, when they were in Los Angeles.
