Biggs: Rams make a Fine tight end find

The St. Louis Rams took advantage of their perch atop the waiver wire system on Wednesday. With the top position, they’re going to get any player they put in a claim for and that was the case with tight end Derek Fine, who they were awarded on waivers from Buffalo.

Fine was also claimed by Cleveland and Jacksonville, according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Fine appeared in 11 games for the Bills over the last two seasons. He was a fourth-round draft pick from Kansas in 2008. His season last year was cut short by a knee injury.

"He healthy now," St. Louis general manager Billy Devaney said. "We’re just going to bring him into the mix, and see how he does."

He could prove to be a replacement for veteran Randy McMichael, who is expected to depart in free agency. The Rams still have Billy Bajema, a skilled blocker, and Daniel Fells, who will be a restricted free agent.
