Biggs: Rams send Richie packing
The St. Louis Rams cut ties with controversial guard Richie Incognito today, two days after he lost control on the field in a blowout loss at Tennessee.
Incognito got two personal fouls in short order in the loss, and was quickly benched by coach Steve Spagnuolo. He head-butted Titans defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks after a play, and was called for a late hit on safety Vincent Fuller. Mark Setterstrom took over for Incognito, and that was that.
“Honestly, I’m excited for the new opportunity,” Incognito told the Post-Dispatch. “My stay in St. Louis hasn’t been a glorious one from the get-go. I came in with a lot of doubts. It hasn’t been, I’m searching for the word, everything hasn’t been great.
“So in part, I feel like a great weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I get an opportunity to go play for a new team in a new city. I can get away from the negativity that has surrounded me, that has been surrounding my entire career here in St. Louis. So that I’m looking forward to.”
Incognito was a third-round draft pick in 2005 and he came out of Nebraska with concerns about his temper and self-control. Now, he’ll have to find a team willing to roll the dice that he will be able to behave.
