Biggs: Redskins add a quarterback

The Washington Redskins have added a quarterback to their roster as they signed Richard Bartel off the practice squad of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Bartel becomes the third quarterback behind starter Jason Campbell and reserve backup Todd Collins. Andre Woodson was released from the Redskins’ practice squad.

Bartel played with Cleveland in the preseason. Originally signed by Dallas as an undrafted free agent in 2007 from Tarleton (Texas) State, he spent parts of two seasons on the Cowboys’ practice squad. It will be interesting to see if the Redskins try to get a look at Bartel down the stretch. They didn’t pluck him from the Jaguars just to fill out a roster spot. Obviously, they think he has some talent to develop.

Washington also signed fullback Jonathan Evan to the practice squad.
