Biggs: Redskins dump some big names
First, Chris Samuels announced his retirement from the game today in a press conference at Redskins Park. Then, the team started doing some housecleaning in anticipation for what could be a wild ride this weekend for the franchise in free agency.
Wide receiver Antwan Randle El, one of the poster boys for what has gone wrong with Daniel Snyder’s massive spending, guard Randy Thomas and running back Rock Cartwright were released.
Thomas has been with the team for seven seaons but has battled a series of injuries, and he was due to earn $3.7 million this season, according to Jason Reid of the Washington Post.
Randle El was a receiver and return man for the last four seasons but never lived up to expectations after signing with the club in free agency following his stint in Pittsburgh, which included a championship in Super Bowl XL.
Cartwright has been a standout special teams player for some time but was deemed to be making too much money. Brace yourself for the Redskins to start spending plenty of it.
