Biggs: Redskins give Campbell first-round tender

Jason Campbell has maintained that he will remain the quarterback of the Washington Redskins until, they know, replace him with someone that Mike Shanahan wants to build his offense around.

That remains the case today as the Redskins have tendered Campbell, a restricted free agent, at the first-round level, meaning he will be set to earn $3.1 million this season, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Although it’s unlikely, the Redskins would have seven days to match any offer sheet that Campbell would sign with another club.

While some have panned him, Campbell’s game isn’t that different from Jake Plummer. The skill set is similar. It could be that Shanahan finds a way to play with Campbell for the time being. What the Redskins do in the first round of the draft will tell plenty.
