Biggs: Redskins hire McCardell as WR coach
The Washington Redskins have announced the hiring of Keenan McCardell as wide receivers coach.
The 40-year-old McCardell played for 17 seasons, retiring with 883 receptions for 11,373 yards and 63 touchdowns. He’s 13th on the all-time receptions list.
“Keenan is an outstanding addition to our coaching staff,” Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said. “He has all the attributes you look for in one to become an outstanding coach. Keenan has instant credibility with our players. He will be able to pass along much of the knowledge and expertise he picked up throughout a great career.”
McCardell was a minority intern during training camp for the New York Giants and coached in the East-West Shrine Game. He’ll be charged with helping bring along former second-round draft picks Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly, players that have underachieved to this point. Shanahan may have been looking for a coach with credibility in the locker room as he’s hired some young coaches, including his son Kyle as offensive coordinator.
