Biggs: Redskins will promote punter for Carolina game

The Washington Redskins will make a roster move today to create a space for punter Glenn Pakulak, who will be promoted from the practice squad.

Regular punter Hunter Smith will not be active for Sunday’s game at Carolina as he has a groin muscle pull. Pakulak was signed to the practice squad earlier this week. He will also handle holding duties for kicker Shaun Suisham.

“I think he did a great job,’’ Redskins coach Jim Zorn said. “If he was a young guy who had never held before or had very little skill doing that, then I would have a different decision but I think he will do fine.

“He has got a strong leg. He gets great hang time. He doesn’t wear out, he just kicks. ‘How many more do you want coach?’ So he is ready to go, he is very ready to go.”

Pakulak punted in eight games for the New Orleans Saints last year. No word yet on who will get the axe to make room for Pakulak, but the Redskins could move to re-sign the player next week.
