Biggs: Saints add McAlister

The New Orleans Saints got good news on Monday when they learned that Tracy Porter did not have a torn ACL, as originally feared, and on Tuesday they added some insurance.

Chris McAlister has been signed to the roster, a 10-year veteran who went to three Pro Bowls as a member of the Baltimore Ravens. McAlister has been rumored to be ready to make a return since September. He was released by the Ravens in February, and underwent knee surgery at the end of last season.

It’s a perfect fit for him because the Saints are unbeaten and look to be headed to the postseason. He’ll fit in immediately with veteran Randall Gay and rookie first-round draft pick Malcolm Jenkins.

Porter is expected to miss six weeks while he rehabilitates from a sprained MCL. That would have him returning right at the end of the season. Fellow cornerback Jabari Greer missed Sunday’s game at St. Louis with a groin injury. That makes the addition of McAllister even more important.

To make room for the 32-year-old, the Saints released third quarterback Chase Daniel, the rookie from Missouri.
