Biggs: Samuels will retire

It comes as a surprise to no one that the Washington Redskins have called a press conference for Thursday at which veteran left tackle Chris Samuels will announce his retirement.

The Pro Bowl performer suffered a neck injury in October and the speculation then was that he would not play again. The Washington Post has reported that he suffers from stenosis, a narrowing of the spine, and would risk paralysis if he returned to the game.

Samuels consulted with many doctors over the last few months and every one of them came back with the same recommendation for him. So, he’ll hang ’em up.

Expect another Redskins press conference on Friday to show off their bounties from free agency. After all, they’re going to come out spending in an uncapped year, right?
