Biggs: Second stay in Tampa quick for DE Evans

Defensive end Maurice Evans’ second stay with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ended quickly as he was placed on waivers by the club today in order to make room for free safety Tanard Jackson, who was activated after serving a four-game suspension for violation of the league’s policy on anabolic steroids and related substances.

Evans has racked up some frequent flier miles since being cut loose by the New York Giants at the end of preseason. He’s made two stops with the Bucs and he’s also had a stint on he practice squad of the Carolina Panthers.

Evans went undrafted from Penn State after leaving school a year early for the draft. The Giants liked him this summer but had too much depth at the position to bring him along. The Bucs liked him enough to claim him on waivers. It’s possible that he could return to Tampa’s practice squad next week. Otherwise, he’ll be back on a plane.
