Biggs: Vick receives courage award from Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles have named Michael Vick the recipient of the team’s Ed Block Courage Award for 2009.

It’s an interesting selection, and one that is voted on by players only. Every year each team chooses an Ed Block Courage Award winner, selecting someone who exemplifies commitment to the principles of sportsmanship and courage.

Vick has played in 12 games and is 6-for-13 passing for 86 yards with one touchdown, and he’s carried the ball 24 times for 95 yards and two touchdowns. He was signed to a two-year contract in August after spending nearly two years in prison on federal dogfighting charges.

All 32 Ed Block winners will be honored at a March banquet in Baltimore.
