Biggs: Vick will not see his former dogs in Oakland
Michael Vick is travelling with the Philadelphia Eagles to Oakland this weekend, but his visit will not include taking time to see eight of his former dogs rescued from his Bad Newz Kennels when the quarterback’s empire came crashing down more than two years ago.
BAD RAP, which stands for Bay Area Doglovers Responsible About Pitbulls, is an Oakland-based outfit that took 10 of the dogs rescued from Vick’s compound. The group sent an invitation through the Eagles for Vick to view his former dogs during the trip to Oakland. The team said he declined, according to BAD RAP co-founder Tim Racer.
“We understand Vick is trying to right his wrongs and is very interested in redemption, but you can't find redemption without acknowledging your victims," Racer told the Associated Press. “Making amends to the dogs themselves would have helped to create some closure for many of us, especially those people who worked so hard to keep them from being destroyed. It seems that Vick is not ready to go there.”
As part of Vick’s probation, he is prohibited from being around animals. Racer said the group had set up a situation where he could have viewed them from a distance and been in compliance.
