Biggs: Vols want Joe Barry

There has been some turnover already on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ coaching staff and now linebackers coach Joe Barry is in demand, according to Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune.

The University of Tennessee and new coach Derek Dooley has contacted Barry about becoming the defensive coordinator for the Volunteers. From the school’s perspective, it makes sense. Barry could come in and pick up where Monte Kiffin left off with the defense after Kiffin hightailed it to USC with his son.

The Buccaneers, who are prickly when it comes to coaches under contract being allowed to leave, already denied the Washington Redskins permission to speak with Barry about becoming their linebackers coach. Barry was in demand before and Tampa would not let him out of his contract to join his father-in-law Rod Marinelli in Detroit at the outset.
