Bills: EJ Manuel to have minor knee surgery, out for rest of preseason
Rookie quarterback EJ Manuel, the Buffalo Bills first-round draft pick, has suffered a setback in his bid to win the starting quarterback job in a competition with veteran Kevin Kolb.
He's out for the remainder of the preseason with a knee injury and Kolb essentially wins the job by default even though Manuel outplayed him.
Manuel has been dealing with swelling in his left knee with a magnetic resonance imaging exam revealing that he needs to have a minor knee surgery that's been scheduled, the Bills announced.
"Kevin Kolb will be our starting quarterback for this weekend’s game at Washington," the Bill said in a statement.
Wide receiver Kevin Elliott has a torn anterior cruciate ligament and will miss the remainder of the season, the team announced.
