Bills granted roster exemption for Byrd

Now that Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd has signed his $6.9 million one-year, franchise tender, the AFC East club has been granted a roster exemption through the end of the preseason.

The Bills would like the two-time Pro Bowl safety to possibly have a roster exemption into the regular season, but roster extemptions are limited to two games in most cases.

Byrd isn't slated to report until later this week.

The exemption starts Tuesday when NFL teams are cutting rosters down to 75 players. The roster exemption expires on Aug. 31 when teams have to cut rosters to 53 players.
