Bills hire Dennis Thurman as defensive coordinator, name other coaches

The Buffalo Bills' coaching staff looks a lot like the old New York Jets' coaching staff.

That includes Dennis Thurman, a longtime Rex Ryan confidant, joining him as defensive coordinator with the Bills.

The Bills also hired Bobby April III as linebackers coach. He coached the Jets' linebackers last season.

Former Jets defensive line coach Karl Dunbar will take over the Bills' defensive line.

Former Jets secondary coach Tim McDonald is the Jets' secondary coach, working in tandem with Donnie Henderson, who worked with Ryan previously in Baltimore and New York.

Tony Sparano Jr. is the tight ends coach. Sparano Jr. was an offensive assistant for the Jets last season. He's the son of former Miami Dolphins and Oakland Raiders coach Tony Sparano.

Jason Oszvart is the strength and conditioning assistant. He was with the Jets previously in the same role.

Jeff Weeks is the assistant defensive line coach. He worked for the Jets' defense for the past two seasons.

Eric Smith, a former Jets safety who coached last year on the Ryan staff, was named special teams assistant.
