Bironas puts Titans on notice regarding contract

Tennessee Titans kicker Rob Bironas would like a contract extension from the Tennessee Titans, and he is setting a deadline for something to happen.

Bironas told Dan Ariks of TitanInsider.com that he would like something to be worked out by the start of the regular season, a month away, or he would assume he needs to make plans to explore free agency after 2012.

"I'm out of the contract at the end of the season, I won't be negotiating during the season and that's how I feel about it." Bironas said. "Unfortunately, it's a business. They understood that six months ago and they understand that now. We have four or five weeks before the season starts, so hopefully something gets done. If not, I'm going into the season looking at it as my final year, or they will have to compete with the free agent market."

Bironas has been one of the league's top kickers since joining the Titans seven years ago. Last year, he was 29 of 32, including hitting 6 of 7 from beyond 50 yards. He is in the final year of a four-year, $12 million deal he signed in 2009.

"Obviously I started my career here, and I want to end it here. I hope the Titans get something together before the season starts, so I'm not trying out for another 31 teams," he said.
