Bodden eyes full recovery after back surgery
Leigh Bodden was about to sign a contract with the Kansas City Chiefs shortly after being released in New England.
Instead, he told the Chiefs about some persistent pain in his back and legs, and on Thursday underwent surgery to fix a herniated disc in his back. Bodden said he expects to make a full recovery and hopes to play again next season.
“I don’t want my career to end like this, and it won’t,” Bodden told the Boston Herald in a phone interview from his hospital bed. “I know my ability. This surgery is really nothing, they removed the disc, and it’ll just let the leg be normal. I still feel like I’m a damn good player at this point in my career, age or not.”
Bodden was released by the Patriots on Oct. 28, and he said that injuries contributed to his problems in New England. He recalled a play that happened during his last practice as a Patriot.
“I had told them my back was hurting,” Bodden said. “One time, a receiver caught a ball on me, and I could barely run. They’re screaming at me, and it probably looked like I didn’t care. But that’s never the case with me.”
