Brandon Spikes charged with leaving scene of an accident, negligent driving

Former New England Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident and driving negligently after a Massachusetts state police investigation. Spikes crashed his 2011 Maybach into a car near Foxborough last week, causing minor injuries to a family. Spikes was fired by the Patriots after the incident. Spikes' Onstar said that the driver, Spikes, said that he hit a deer. That was apparently a lie because police found no evidence of a deer in the area. Spikes was also charged with speeding and failure to stay within marked lanes. Spikes was driving the car that hit the vehicle. "Responding troopers located the Maybach with significant front-end damage in the median off the northbound side of Route 495 shortly before 3:30 a.m. on June 7," the police said in a press release. "The driver was not with the vehicle. Before he fled the scene, however, he was contacted by the Mercedes onboard assistance service, which had detected a crash and called the vehicle. During that call, the driver reported that he had struck a deer. "When troopers responded to the abandoned car, they found no evidence of a deer strike on or around the Maybach. Around the same time, also on Route 495 north in Foxborough, troopers responded to the Murano, which had pulled over into the breakdown lane. The vehicle showed evidence of being struck from behind."
