Brees voted as Madden cover boy

The defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints have a new obstacle to overcome in defending their throne this season.

The Madden cover jinx.

That’s because quarterback Drew Brees was selected as the cover boy for the popular EA video game. He was chosen over Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen and Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne in online fan voting, according to Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Cover boy status hasn’t led to good fortune for some in the past. Barry Sanders retired out of the blue in 1999. Troy Polamalua (last year), Shaun Alexander (2006), Donovan McNabb (2005) and Michael Vick (2003) all suffered injury plagued or ruined seasons.
