Brian Hoyer to join Texans

Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer is signing with the Houston Texans, a league source confirmed. Hoyer joins a Texans team that also is bringing back Ryan Mallett on a two-year, $7 million contract. They are expected to compete for the starting job. Both played for Texans coach Bill O'Brien with the New England Patriots. Hoyer was also recruited by the New York Jets. Hoyer, 29, lost his starting job last seasonĀ  to Johnny Manziel after getting off to a 7-4 start. He got back on the field when Manziel got hurt. Hoyer passed for 3,326 yards, 12 touchdowns and 13 interceptions last season. His 76.5 quarterback ranking ranked 31st in the NFL.
