Brian Urlacher leaves Bears for next several days

Chicago Bears middle linebacker Brian Urlacher is expected to be away from the team for at least the next several days after leaving town Chicago to handle a family emergency involving his mother Lavoyda.

Urlacher departed on Tuesday and his status for Sunday’s game at New Orleans isn’t known. The team was aware he needed to depart immediately.

Urlacher shined in the Bears’ season-opening victory over the Atlanta Falcons at Soldier Field. He returned a fumble for a touchdown and intercepted Matt Ryan in the 30-12 victory.

Urlacher, who was raised in Lovington, N.M., has remained very close to his mother, who lately has lived in Texas.

The Bears play at New Orleans on Sunday.
