Brian Westbrook wants to sign before training camp

He might be running out of time, but Brian Westbrook says he hopes to be signed with a new team before training camp begins.

The veteran running back told the Washington Post that he’s spoken to “six or seven” teams and is attempting to determine what will be the best fit for him. Whether that means he’s still trying to get a lucrative contract that has the most guaranteed dough possible, we don’t know. It certainly wouldn’t surprise us at all if teams were tying money to playing time for Westbrook, who missed more than half of last season after suffering two concussions.

Those aren’t the only injuries he’s dealt with, either. Of course, the former Philadelphia Eagle had ankle and knee surgeries before going into last season. He’s selling the fact that the rest and time off have done his body good.

“A lot of people, they don't understand," Westbrook said. "The way to heal is to rest. They don't realize I didn't have any time to rehab or to just train for last season.

“That's why I know this season is gonna be different because I've got time to work out, time to get in shape, time to train, time to be the best player I can be. There's no doubt about it when I go out and I'm healthy. This year I'm healthy. No excuses."

What team will be the right fit for him remains to be seen. Washington, St. Louis and Denver are known to have been in the mix for his services. We’ll see if he finds a taker in the next two weeks.
