Broncos sign Brandon Marshall to four-year, $32 million deal
Denver Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall has signed a four-year, $32 million contract. The deal includes $15 million guaranteed. “We’re thrilled to agree to terms with Brandon on a four-year extension,” Broncos general manager John Elway said. “Brandon’s become an integral part of our defense over the last three years and has put in a lot of hard work into becoming such a key player on our team. We congratulate Brandon and look forward to him being a Bronco for many more years.” Starting 29-of-31 games for the Broncos during the last three seasons, Marshall collected 212 tackles (165 solo), 3.5 sacks (27.5 yds.), two interceptions, 13 passes defensed and three forced fumbles. He also opened 4-of-7 postseason games for Denver from 2013-15, totaling 20 tackles (13 solo), two passes defensed and one forced fumble. Marshall opened all 16 games for the Broncos in 2015 and posted his second consecutive 100-tackle season, totaling 101 defensive stops (76 solo) to go along with 1.5 sacks (10.5 yds.), one interception, four passes defensed and two forced fumbles. He added 14 tackles (9 solo) and one forced fumble in the postseason which ended with a Broncos victory in Super Bowl 50. In his first season as a starter in 2014, Marshall started 13-of-14 regular-season games for Denver and led the team with a career-best 110 tackles (88 solo). He also notched two sacks (17 yds.), nine passes defensed and one forced fumble. Marshall played five games for the Jaguars as a rookie in 2012, splitting time between the club’s active roster and practice squad. He was signed to the Broncos’ practice squad in 2013 and competed on that unit before being elevated to the active roster for the rest of the season in Week 17. A four-year starter at Nevada, Marshall totaled 259 tackles, including 40 stops for a loss, during his collegiate career with the Wolf Pack. He attended Cimarron-Memorial High School in Las Vegas and was born on Sept. 10, 1989. Follow me on Twitter: @AaronWilson_NFL Aaron Wilson covers the Texans for The Houston Chronicle.
