Browns cut Vince Young

The Cleveland Browns have cut loose quarterback Vince Young, ending his brief comeback attempt.

Young had been signed to a one-year, $730,000 contract that included no guaranteed money. He became expendable after the Browns drafted quarterback Johnny Manziel in the first round.

They also cut defensive back Brandon Hughes, defensive lineman Brian Sanford, quarterback Alex Tanney and running back Fozzy Whitaker.

Young hasn't played in the NFL since 2011 with the Philadelphia Eagles.

He was with the Green Bay Packers briefly last season before being released.

A former Tennessee Titans first-round draft pick who made the Pro Bowl in 2006 and 2009, Young was the Associated Press NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2006 after playing collegiately at the University of Texas.

Young, 30, has passed for 8,964 career yards, 46 touchdowns and 51 interceptions.

Young resolved a bankruptcy case earlier this year.
