Browns likely to hire offensive coordinator in 2012
When the decision was made to name Pat Shurmur head coach of the Cleveland Browns, Mike Holmgren decided that Shurmur would also serve in the dual role of offensive coordinator.
Now, it appears that the Browns will entertain the idea of adding someone different in the offensive coordinator role next season, says Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. That person, however, would not be taking over the play-calling duties from Shurmur. More likely, the coordinator would simply be responsible for installing and overseeing the game plan each week, but would relinquish the calls on Sundays to the head coach.
"I think now, as he goes through this season, I don't expect him to change calling the game, but in all likelihood, we'll hire an offensive coordinator next year," Holmgren said. "Because that frees the head coach up in his preparation and how he can prepare for the game during the week."
