Brunell takes first-team reps at Jets practice

Mark Brunell took first-team reps at quarterback with the New York Jets offense as Rex Ryan played a card similar to last year in trying to get Mark Sanchez back on track.

“You know me. If I think something’s working, we’ll go with it,” Ryan told the New York Daily News. “If we played better when we did it last year, then I will do that... I don’t think it really matters, but for some reason he got a little hot under the collar and gave that super competitive fighting spirit that we know he has. It seems to work.”

Sanchez has reverted back to his inconsistent ways as the Jets have slumped to 5-5 with last Thursday night's loss to Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos.

Sanchez was nearly benched last year when Brunell was given first-team reps late in the year, but this time he seems to see through Ryan's ploy.

“That’s the coach’s decision,” Sanchez said. “I’m just trying to control what I can and that’s improve, make better decisions with the football and taking the reps I have and doing well with them.”
