Bucs haven't ruled out Nicks for opener

Nicks had season-ending surgery on his left big toe last November and has a staph infection in his left foot. He has not done any work since the three-day practice session with the New England Patriots weeks ago in camp.

But Schiano left open the possibility that Nicks could play when the Bucs face the New York Jets on Sept. 8 to open the regular season.

"I think there's too much time still before we can (rule Nicks out)," Schiano said via the Tampa Bay Times.
