Bucs lineman rescues teens in distress out at sea

The NFL’s refusal to open weight rooms to players might be one of the factors that led to Ted Larsen fishing Wednesday afternoon.

If so, three teens have to be thankful.

Larsen was fishing with his girlfriend during the afternoon when he heard a Coast Guard signal for a boater in distress. According to Robbyn Mitchell of the St. Petersburg Times, Larsen realized from the coordinates that he was not far away.

Near Honeymoon Island, he spotted two teens holding onto a kayak and a third in a separate kayak.

“It could have been a big deal. You always read about overturned kayaks," Larsen said. "It was good to help them. It just felt it was a good thing to do."

Larsen took the kids – and their parents- kayaks – to land and everyone was safe.

“That's an important lesson they learned,” Larsen said. “You've got be aware of the weather. The ocean can turn on you.”
