Bucs lose CB Eric Wright to 4-game suspension

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be without veteran cornerback Eric Wright until the regular-season finale as he lost his appeal of a four-game suspension for violation of the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

Wright is just the latest player to announce that he has been pinched for taking the banned stimulant Adderall. His looming suspension was reported earlier this season and now he will lose $1,812,500 of his salary. The loss could be much more than that though, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Times. That is because by testing positive Wright has voided the remaining guaranteed money in his contract -- $7.5 million, according to ESPN.

The Bucs signed Wright to a $37.5 million, five-year contract in free agency and now it remains to be seen if they’ll want to remain committed to him with the big contract.

Wright is the second Bucs player to be suspended. Cornerback Aqib Talib was also suspended and said he tested positive for Adderall. He was traded to the New England Patriots.

"This is the result of taking Adderall at the end of July for health issues I was experiencing," Wright said in a statement, according to Stroud. "I am extremely disappointed that the suspension was upheld at my appeal.

"I apologize to the Glazer family, general manager Mark Dominik, Coach (Greg) Schiano and the entire Tampa Bay Buccaneers organization, my teammates, our great fans and my family who have stood by me through this entire process. I will continue to prepare myself and look forward to rejoining the team."

Now, Seattle Seahawks cornerbacks Brandon Browner and Richard Sherman are fighting suspensions ties to, you guessed it, Adderall.
