Bucs lose Da'Quan Bowers to torn Achilles tendon

It’s not quite like the Baltimore Ravens losing Terrell Suggs, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were dealt a significant blow as defensive end Da’Quan Bowers is sidelined with a torn Achilles tendon.

The club announced the injury today and Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune reports the second-round pick from last season will undergo surgery on Friday. The injury certainly casts serious doubt on Bowers’ ability to play this season under first-year coach Greg Schiano. But Bowers pledged on his Twitter account that he will play this season.

Bowers was considered a top prospect last year and a probable 10 top pick after he was a standout pass rusher at Clemson. But concerns about his knees dropped him to the second round. Bowers played in 1ll 16 games for Tampa last season and started six. He was credited with 25 tackles and 1
