Bucs ponder possible shift to safety for Ronde Barber

Ronde Barber has returned for a 16th season in the NFL and it could be the first he spends at safety.

It’s an experiment, at least, that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are tinkering with in the first minicamp under new coach Greg Schiano. According to the Tampa Times, Cody Grimm is the only safety with starting experience on the roster and the Bucs have added a veteran cornerback in Eric Wright.

It could be the Bucs shift Barber to safety or he’s simply asked to provide depth there in case of need. Or maybe no shift happens at all.

“That's one of those (experiments)," Schiano said, per the report. "I think Ronde can certainly do it and did a good job (Tuesday). How do we get the best 11 on the field?''
