Bucs will honor Warren Sapp in team's Ring of Honor

Warren Sapp will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August and this coming season he will be inducted into the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ring of Honor.

Sapp becomes the second Buc after the late Lee Roy Selmon to be enshrined in Canton, Ohio, and he will be the fifth person to go into the Bucs’ ring, according to Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune.

Sapp joins Selmon, the franchise’s first coach John McKay, tight end Jimmie Giles and left tackle Paul Gruber.

“If you look around this league and see all those great names up in the stadiums in cities like Chicago, Green Bay and Minnesota, the Ring of Honor is like the who’s who of the who’s who,” Sapp said, according to Cummings. “Your name is up there right next to the Coca-Cola sign. Think about all the bowl games, the concerts, the monster truck shows at Raymond James … your name is always sitting there.’’

Sapp, who was an integral part of the Tampa Two defense run by Tony Dungy, played nine seasons with the Bucs. He spent his final four with the Oakland Raiders. It’s worth noting there is not a ring of honor at Soldier Field in Chicago.
