Builder says Vikings stadium could be ready in 2015

The construction company that has built the last three major sports stadiums in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area says if the Minnesota Vikings get the green light on a new proposed stadium in Arden Hills by the new year, the project could be completed in time for the 2015 season.

Mortenson Construction senior vice president John Wood called it an aggressive schedule but “very adequate,” according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Some have said the timeline is unrealistic. Wood said for the stadium to be ready for 2015, there would need to be “legislative authorization by the end of this year, (and) there would need to be an immediate start on design” in order for construction to begin before 2012 ends. The Vikings’ lease at the Metrodome runs through the 2011 season.

There is a lot of back and forth going on right now but Gov. Mark Dayton is committed to having lawmakers tackle this issue next month and that could mean progress for the project. The NFL is keeping a close eye on the situation.
