Burress not buying Jets' excuse for Mason trade
Plaxico Burress says he isn't buying that Derrick Mason's lack of production for th New York Jets was what got him shipped to the Houston Texans on Tuesday.
Mason had been critical of the Jets offense following a loss to Baltimore, after which he said there were "cracks" in the New York offense.
“My production hasn’t been all that great either. Santonio [Holmes’] production hasn’t been all that great either. You can’t just point at one guy. You can’t just say it was his production," Burress told the New York Post.
Prior to the trade, Mason had been benched by Coach Rex Ryan, and the veteran receiver was demoted to the scout team last week, something that caught Burress by surprise.
Mason told the media in Houston that he was not upset about the trade and that he is ready to contribute to the Texans, who, ironically, play at the Ravens, where Mason played for six seasons and against the team where his fall from grace began with the Jets.
