Calvin Johnson's extension could reach $130 million
The Detroit Lions were looking to create some more salary-cap space and lock up Calvin Johnson.
They’ve accomplished both. And from the sounds of things this will be the contract future wide receiver deals are judged against.
Johnson and the Lions will hold a 1 p.m. press conference and Tim Twentyman, who writes for the team’s Web site, announces the seven-year extension will keep Johnson in a Detroit uniform through 2019. So, seven years were tacked on to the original contract that was set to expire at the end of this season.
The total value? Twentyman hints that Johnson’s contract will approach a total value of $130 million. That would be a Megatron-sized contract. Stay tuned.
