Cam Newton, Devon Kennard earn NFC honors

The New York Giants finally have an accomplishment to celebrate.

Giants rookie linebacker Devon Kennard was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week following his performance in a win over the Titans. Kennard had two sacks and a forced fumble, which Markus Kuhn returned for a touchdown, during his team's victory.

On the other side of the ball, Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton collected the NFC Offensive Player of the Week award. However, a chance to repeat the honor likely won't happen as Newton was involved in a two-car accident on Tuesday. He suffered two traverse fractures in his back, with the likelihood of playing this week being slim.

But Newton shined in this past Sunday's win over the Saints, throwing for 226 yards and three touchdowns. He ran for an additional 83 yards and a touchdown.
