Cam Newton questionable, game-time decision

It looks like it's 50/50 as to whether Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will be able to play Sunday.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Panthers coach Ron Rivera said that Newton would be a game-time decision in Carolina's season-opener against Tampa Bay. Newton has been recovering from a hairline fracture in one of his ribs.

Newton was able to throw the ball during Friday's practice and took all of the reps. This followed missing Wednesday's practice and being limited on Thursday while not throwing. It remains to be seen if Newton will be given the go-ahead at this time.

The Panthers will need him available due to his rushing threat. Carolina can expect to see a lot of eight-man boxes with the receiving group they're working with right now.
